Penny Leigh Nelson

Penny Leigh Nelson, 61, of 10 Linwood Avenue, died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2021, in UPMC Chautauqua, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

An area resident all of her life, she was born Nov. 15, 1959, in Jamestown, a daughter of Ronald Nelson and the late Arlene Albright Nelson.

She was a 1977 graduate of Southwestern Central School.

She was employed by the Surf Club as a waitress, Fenton Park Nursing Home as an aide, and also as a private duty caregiver and housekeeper.

She enjoyed riding horses and had a green thumb that could make anything grow. Her unique personality, smile and laugh would instantly brighten a room.

Surviving besides her father of Busti, is a daughter, Stephanie (Chris) McCleskey of Madison, Ala.; grandchildren: Calloway McCleskey of Ellsworth AFB, South Dakota and Madison McCleskey of Madison, Ala.; sisters: Tammy Ormond of Ashville, N.Y., and Kristine (Chris) Powers of Frewsburg; and brothers: Benny (Carol) Nelson of Key Largo, Fla., and Pete (Ann) Nelson of Busti; along with 10 nieces and nephews.

Besides her mother, she was preceded in death by her stepmother, Sharon Nelson.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p..m. Sunday in the Lind Funeral Home.

Friends will be received from noon to 2 p.m., Sunday in the funeral home.

Due to new COVID-necessitated policies, masks are required, regardless of immunization status.
