Dorothy W. Edstrom
Dorothy W. Edstrom, 90, was born May 12, 1931, the daughter of John Carmen Walker Jr. and Dorothy N. Dahlgren Walker. She was the granddaughter of Elmer and A. Mabel (Lindholm) Dahlgren, and John and Bessie (Dougherty) Walker.
Dorothy “Dell” as known to her family was a Falconer, N.Y., resident and graduate of Falconer High School. She married Albert E. Edstrom on Jan. 1, 1951, at the Falconer Wesleyan Church in Falconer, N.Y. They were married by the Rev. Willard Steele and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Jan. 1, 2001.
Dorothy served as corporate secretary and treasurer of the family business, J.C. Walker Co., Inc. She was active in PTA for the former Falconer Southside School for several years. She also served on the Chautauqua Board of Elections in Falconer and was a former member of the junior board of the Marvin House in Jamestown, N.Y.
She served on the board of the Shrine Auxiliary, Consistory Auxiliary of the York Rite, Commandry Auxiliary of Jamestown, in which she and her late husband, Albert were very active in the Masonic organization along with their family. Dorothy was also a member of the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club Auxiliary.
Dorothy enjoyed her, “Girls Club” for over 60 years and their gettogethers, lunches, house coffee and desserts. She said, “the girls were like family.”
She also enjoyed with her husband and parents traveling every February to Brookville, Fla., for several weeks and having enjoyable times for many years with their friends from, Ohio, Michigan, New Hampshire, Maine, Ft. Erie and St. Catherine’s Canada and many other states. They were the Brookville Holiday Inn Boosters Club.
Dorothy was a very avid Wednesday Lakewood Morning Bowler for many years, with many friends from Lakewood, N.Y.
She was a fantastic golfer for many years on the Wednesday Morning Ladies Golf League at Willow Run, where she had many hole in one’s. Dorothy enjoyed boating on Chautauqua Lake with her family, and entertaining friends on the boat for many years. She did quite well for being a, nonswimmer.
Dorothy enjoyed time spent with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed participating in all of their activities. Attending soccer games, cheerleading, basket ball, tennis, T-ball etc. Grandma was a taxi and avid shopper with her granddaughters. They enjoyed going out for lunch and dinner with her for many years. Dorothy enjoyed watching her great-grandchildren perform their singing and dancing performances and attending their T-ball, football and wrestling events. Known to her great-grandchildren as, “G.G.”
She is survived by her daughter, Kathleen (Edstrom) Walker; her son, John Edstrom; two grand-daughters: Ashley (TJ) Williamson and Jessica (Travis) Dickerson; four great-grandchildren: Maci and TJ Williamson, Ethan and Paislee “Rose” Dickerson.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Albert E. Edstrom, who died March 28, 2001.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. , Saturday in the Falconer Funeral Home. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Falconer.
The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to the funeral service Saturday in the funeral home.
Memorials may be donated to the Marvin House of Jamestown, Falconer Fire Department or Chautauqua Hospice and Palliative Care.
