Caroline R. Gilbert, 76, of Portland, N.Y., passed away on Saturday, Oct. 23, 2021, after a brief illness surrounded by family. It was then that she rejoined her late husband, Ronald, and they danced into the clouds together.
Caroline was born on April 14, 1945, at home in Randolph, N.Y., to the late Paul and Virginia “Ginny” (Meacham) Walters.
Caroline was a resident of Chautauqua County for most of her life. She married the love of her life, Ronald Gilbert Sr. on Oct. 13, 1962, in Stockton, N.Y.
Caroline held several factory and farm jobs in her lifetime, as well as the job of housekeeper which she thoroughly enjoyed until retirement. Her most important job she held was that of mom and grandma.
Caroline had many hobbies, she loved to attend bingo with her family and friends, she enjoyed playing lotto, loved to listen to gospel music every Sunday, collecting nicnacs, and loved animals especially her precious doggies: (Sparky, Carley, Puppy and Susie-Q). Caroline adored her family and enjoyed their gatherings, if you were lucky to be playing music you could often catch her and her love gliding across the dancefloor (or making their own).
Caroline was a sweet soul and everyone who met her loved her.
Besides her parents, Paul and Virginia Walters, and her husband, Ronald, Caroline was preceded in death by her brothers: Michael Walters, Fletcher Walters; and her sister, Pauline Kelley.
Caroline is survived by her children: Charlene Greene (Jeff Hamilton), Ronda (Donald) Hebner, Lisa Gilbert, Ronald Gilbert Jr. (Marie Snyder), Sherry Stanford and Jimmy Joe (Jamie) Diabo; her sister, Catherine (Bob) Cole; and brothers: Jon “Doc” (Liz) Walters and Richard Walters; 17 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild (and another on the way); and many nieces and nephews and extended family.
She will be laid to rest with her husband at the Stockton Cemetery in a private ceremony on Saturday, Nov. 6 and a celebration of life will be held at 4828 Dean Road in Stockton from 1-4 p.m.
