Dennis A. “Stork” Courtney

Dennis A. “Stork” Courtney, 63, of Sherman, N.Y., made his last fire call for the Stanley Hose Company on Aug. 19, 2021 as he went home to be with the Lord. He was surrounded by beloved family at his home.

He was born in Westfield Memorial Hospital on July 8, 1958, son of the late Coltes L. Courtney and Marvelyn C. “Bloss” Courtney.

In Stork’s earlier years he worked on the Bishop/ Alday Farm in Summerdale, later working many years in construction, then later 20 plus years for the Chautauqua County Highway Department as an MEO, also working countless hours for Reed Farms of Sherman.

Stork was a 43-year member of the Stanley Hose Company of Sherman, which he loved very much. He served in many different positions for the Stanley Hose Company, his favorite was running Tanker 281. He became part of a brotherhood that could never be broken.

He attended various churches in the Sherman area and was also an active devout member of Koinonia 83.

Stork enjoyed woodworking and carpentry, a love he shared with his late father, he was an avid hunter, a sport he enjoyed with his sons and grandson, watching his children and grandchildren playing sporting events as well as playing with his brothers.

Country music brought much joy to him as he shared this with his oldest grandson on road trips all over the country singing the whole way. He had a love for driving truck. In the fall driving corn truck was a favorite time to share with his daughter. He was also an uproaring Steelers and Pirates fan. Family was everything to Stork as he loved surrounding himself with family members and friends.

On July 12, 1980, he married his Hhgh school sweetheart, Jackie A. “Pike”, they shared 41 years together (although his children never knew how he did it).

Survivors include his wife Jackie; sons: Joshua Courtney, Micheal (Courtney) Courtney, and Austin Courtney; a daughter, Kelly (Fred) Gable; grandchildren: Colton Courtney, Carlie Gable, Cadence Courtney, Hunter Courtney, and Dakota Courtney. His mother and father-in-law, Janet and David Dawley; a sister, Kathy (Tom) Thompson; brothers: Dale (Nina) Courtney, Craig (Heather) Courtney and Brain (Lisa) Courtney; and many, many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, father, father-in-law, and many other loved ones.

Friends may call at the Stanley Hose Company on Monday, Aug. 23, 2021, from 6-9 p.m. and then again on Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2021, from noon to 1 p.m., where the funeral will attend thereafter.
