W. Arnold “Arnie” Johnson

Arnie Johnson, of Erie P.A., passed into his heavenly home on Feb. 9, 2021. He was born in Jamestown N.Y. in Sept. of 1929, the son of the late Carl and Anna (Bergren) Johnson.

Arnie was a loving husband, father, brother, and grandfather. He put the “Gentle” in Gentleman and was a true friend in every sense.

Arn graduated in 1947 from Jamestown High School. He served with the Army National Guard for seven years. His interest and training in the field of drafting and engineering led him into the design of office furniture. Arnie cofounded BECO Interiors in Jamestown. When the company expanded to Erie, he and his wife Carol became coowners. With their efforts the company grew in the field of office product and design, later expanding into nursing home design in both the Erie and Pittsburgh markets.

Arnie was raised in Jamestown, N.Y. He learned to love the outdoors, especially Chautauqua Lake where he developed his love for fishing. He served as past Commandant of the Chautauqua Lake Power Boat Club. He also enjoyed spending time working in the gardens around their home. Arnie and his wife Carol traveled and visited many countries around the world.

Arn will be sadly missed by his loving wife Carol of 43 years, and his children, Mark Johnson, of Port St. Lucie, F.L.; daughters Christine Burger, of Busti N.Y., Linda Schang (Curt), of Ripley, N.Y., and Sandra (Geoff) Moore, of Vero Beach, F.L. In addition, he is survived by four step-sons, Martin Lauer, of San Antonio, Texas, Terry (Jeri) Lauer, of Raleigh N.C., Greg (Sandy) Lauer, of San Antonio, Texas, and Jim (Elizabeth) Lauer, of Denver, C.O. Also surviving are his sister, Connie Armstrong (Rev. James Armstrong), of League City, Texas, and brother Harold (Doris) Johnson, of Ashville, N.Y.; along with his many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews whom he loved dearly.

Services were private, and burial will be at the convenience of the family. Brugger Funeral Homes and Crematory, Pine Avenue Branch, 845 E. 38th St. is assisting with arrangements. Memorials in Arn’s memory can be made to The Salvation Army or the Erie City Mission. Condolences may be expressed at www.bruggerfuneralhomes.com.
