Jean E. (Quackenbush) Sweigar
Jean E. (Quackenbush) Sweigart, 72, a resident of Jonesborough, Tenn., formerly of North Warren, Pa., passed away in her home on Monday, June 8, 2020.
Jean was born Aug. 30, 1947, in Warren, Pa., daughter of the late Maynard Quackenbush and Charles and Margaret Lane.
Jean was a 1965 graduate of Warren Area High School. She continued her education at Orra Jean Beauty Academy, Erie, Pa., and graduated in 1966. She was employed as a beautician at Angie’s Beauty Salon and Philip’s Hair Designers for 26 years. In 1992, she started her own salon, Jean’s Shear Pleasure, in North Warren. She was a member of the North Warren Presbyterian Church, where she served as a deacon and youth group advisor. She was very involved in the couple’s Bible study group, the couples annual retreat, and attended the annual Praise Gathering in Indianapolis, Ind. She was Cub Scout den mother, a Girl Scout leader, and a devoted mother and grandmother of her children’s athletics.
Upon retiring in 2010, her and her husband, Dick, moved to Jonesborough, Tenn., where they started their new life. Jean attended the First Christian Church and participated in the Bridgebuilders Sunday School Class and the singles seniors’ group of Johnson City, Tenn. She was a member of the Women of Grace group at the Grace Fellowship Church of Johnson City, Tenn. She was also a member of the Leesburg Ruritan and Jonesborough Senior Center.
Jean is survived by her three children: Mark R. Sweigart, wife, Tammy, of Jonesborough, Tenn., Scott W. Sweigart, wife, Gina, of Warren, Pa., and Heidi M. Sweigart Marshall, husband, Lee of Jamestown, N.Y.; siblings: Martha Smith, husband, Wallace of Melbourne, Fla. and William Quackenbush, wife Dixie of Marienville, Pa.; six grandchildren: Britney, Matthew, Jessica, and Mackenzie Sweigart, Hope and David Marshall; one great–granddaughter, Suri Hicks; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, William Richard Sweigart, whom she married on July 2, 1966.
Friends will be received at the North Warren Presbyterian Church, 200 S. State St., North Warren, Pa., on Sunday, June 21 from 2-6 p.m. In honor of Jean, the family is requesting the guests to wear Jean’s favor color, pink. The celebration of life service will be held with the Rev. Burfoot S. Ward, III, pastor officiating, at the church on Monday, June 22 at 11 a.m., with a lunch to follow. Interment will follow in the Pine Grove Cemetery, Russell.
A celebration of life will also be held at the Leesburg Ruritan, 1429 Old Stagecoach Road, Jonesborough, Tenn., on Sunday June 28, at 4 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the North Warren Presbyterian Church, PA, First Christian Church, Johnson City, Tenn. or the Leesburg Ruritan in Jonesborough, Tenn.
