David C. Reid

David C. Reid, 79, of Prospect Street, Gowanda, N.Y., passed away at home surrounded by family Saturday, May 16, 2020, after a 16 year courageous battle with cancer.
David was born in Gowanda, on Jan. 31, 1941, the son of John C. and Madeleine B. ( Noecker) Reid .
David started the Harley Davidson Motorcycle Dealership in Jamestown, in 1975. David just recently received a phone call from Willie G. Davidson, grandson of Harley Davidson founder, expressing well wishes and prayers for recovery. A call that gladdened his heart and made him feel proud to be a part of the ” Harley Family.”
He married the former Marilyn Cook at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Gowanda on Sept. 26, 1959. Marilyn survives.
David was a member of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Gowanda and St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church in Haines City , Fla. Marilyn and David have spent the past 16 years wintering in Lake Wales, Fla., where they have been blessed with many good friends not only in Florida, but back here in New York as well. Marilyn and Dave enjoyed traveling whether it was a spur of the moment motorcycle trip to parts unknown or a European vacation where they were able to spend time abroad. They enjoyed going on cruises (17 as a matter of fact ) and were actually able to travel on a cruise with family this past February.
David enjoyed NASCAR races and at one time participated in the New York and Canadian Enduro Races. He left his mark on the Enduro Race World and was even mentioned in Enduro Racing Literature as a stand out in the field .
Surviving besides his wife, Marilyn of nearly 61 years are a daughter, rhe Rev. Karen (Rick) Cleveland of Cherry Creek; a son; Morgan (Denise) Reid of Gowanda; daughter- in-law Gerrie L. (late Brian) Reid of Gowanda; grandchildren: Matthew (Amanda) Eyring, Melinda Lecceardone, Katelynn (John Hines) Cleveland, Sara Booth, Brittany (Garrett) Hirschman, Jackdaleth Montiel, Ethan (Christina) Reid and Jacob (Chelsea Renaldo) Reid. David is also survived by 13 great- grandchildren (soon to be 15); along with brothers: John (Monica) Reid of Gowanda, Robert (Nancy) Reid of Gowanda, Martin (Nancy) Reid of Gowanda; sisters: Barbara (Edward) Oswalt of Florida, Elizabeth (Michael) Johengen of Gowanda, Rebecca (Allan) Mowry of Collins, Monica (Alan) Hall of Collins and Paula (Randall) Rosen of Gowanda; David is also survived by nieces nephews and cousins along with sister-in-law, Liz (Bob) Guglielmi of Gowanda.
Besides his father, John C. Reid (1991) and his mother, Madeleine B. Reid (2018) David was preceded in death by two sons: Kevin M. Reid (2016) and Brian D. Reid (2019); and a brother, Anthony Reid (2009) .
There will be no prior public visitation or service at this time. A memorial service celebrating David’s life will take place at a later time. The family wants to thank everyone for their thoughts, continued prayers and acts of kindness you have bestowed upon them .
