Jameson Adair Courtine, 9, of Pisgah Forest, a third grade student at Brevard Elementary School, passed away at home after a sudden illness Feb. 27. He was the loving and much-loved son of Dan and Erica Courtine.
Jameson was known by family, friends and schoolmates for his warm and giving nature, whose blue eyes danced in upside down crescents during ever-ready smiles and laughter.
“Our hearts are heavy,” said one of his teachers. Referring to a wall of tributes already posted by Jameson’s classmates, she said. “The kids have expressed so much love and many memories of sweet Jameson!”
His third-grade classmates posted tearful messages; “Jameson is an awesome friend. When someone is sad, he helps them. One day I was sad, then he helped me. So he is my best friend ever.”
Jameson loved the outdoors and all sports, especially soccer, basketball and baseball.
Jameson was an amazing big brother. He taught Rhys how to solve a Rubik’s cube, how to make a 3-pointer, and patiently taught Rhys how to play chess and a variety of games and puzzles. He also taught Rhys all about American Ninja Warrior and Duke Basketball.
He was a bright student, earning top grades in school and reading constantly.
Jameson was born Sept. 6, 2009, in Raleigh. He was a member of Brevard Community Church. Jameson was baptized last May.
He is survived by his parents, both fifth grade teachers in the Transylvania County School System; his brother, Rhys, 8; grandfathers: Raymond Tuers of Connestee Falls, N.C., and Daniel Courtine of Ashville, N.Y.; two uncles; aunts: Dorinda Courtine- White of Jamestown, N.Y., Donna (Courtine) Zimmerman of Evansville, Ind., and Dana Courtine of Midland, Mich.; and five cousins. Jameson was proceeded in death by grandmothers: Dede Courtine of Ashville, N.Y., and Sharyn Tuers, of Connestee Falls, N.C.
