Paul A. Hammond

He was born July 19, 1928, in Ellery Center, he is a son of the late Leo and Lucy Seekings Hammond. A Chautauqua County resident all of his life, he formerly attended Jamestown High School.

Paul was employed for 28 years at the former Jamestown A&P advancing to assistant manager until leaving in 1973. He then owned and operated Celeron Grocery until retirement in 1987.

He enjoyed mowing his grass on his tractor.

Husband of 73 years to Ruth Barkman Hammond, whom he married Oct. 12, 1945; father of Diana Beard of Sinclairville, Kathaleen (Richard) Moore of Cassadaga, Ronald and the late Paul “Butch” Hammond Jr. (1959); grandfather of eight including the late Darryl; great-grandfather of 15; brother of Ruth I. Hammond of Jamestown, Clare (Lois) Hammond of Charlotte, N.C., and the late Esther Terry, Helen Rickerson and three infant siblings.

A private burial in Charlotte Center Cemetery.
