Harold W. Johnson

Harold W. Johnson died peacefully at home on Thursday, April 26, 2018, at the age of 101, just five days short of reaching 102. He resided with his daughter, Lois and Ryan Bentley.

Harold was born May 2, 1916, in Jamestown, to John and Alfrida Johnson.

He attended Jamestown High School and served in the U.S. Army until 1945. Harold married Marion Anderson of Jamestown, on Aug. 28, 1942.

Harold’s life vocation was centered on cars, with an affinity for Fords. After returning from serving in the U.S. Army, he started an auto repair and salvage business, Twin Auto, with his twin brother. When his son, Dan Johnson, graduated from college, they went into business together at Busti Auto. Harold enjoyed his work there until his mid 90s.

Harold had a passion for life and nature. Not only did he enjoy his vocation, but also had numerous interests. He loved the outdoors and learned to trap muskrats and beaver as a young boy. He trapped beavers until he was in his 80s.

Harold met Marion, the love of his life, at the Celoron Skating Rink and they enjoyed roller-skating together for several decades. He skated his last round at age 98!

In the mid 1950s, Twin Auto sponsored #18 racecar and competed at many area dirt tracks. It was a fun, family venture. Harold also enjoyed deer hunting, trolling for muskies on Lake Chautauqua, water skiing, card games, bowling and checkers.

He was full of joy, loved teasing the people he held most dear, holding babies, feeding dogs from the table, going for drives, watching the sunset at the lake and being surrounded by family.

Harold was an entrepreneur, was a generous supporter of young businesses and community, and was a mentor to several generations. He had a deep love for nature and continually marveled at all of God’s creation.

Harold is survived by daughters: Lois Bentley (Ryan) of Frewsburg and Carol Bieganousky (Wayne) of Waxhaw, N.C.; grandchildren: Lori Gloss (Kelly), Suzan Cardinale (Paul), Jonathan Blanchard (Kim), Sarah Paynter (Chad) and Kristine Beardsley (Josh); greatgrandchildren: Catherine Sadowski, Benjamin Leichner, Caleb Leichner, Stephen Gloss, Phillip Gloss, Alanna Blanchard, Josiah Blanchard, Kaitlyn Blanchard, Meredith Paynter, Lauren Paynter, Jeremiah Beardsley and Jillian Beardsley; great-great- grandchildren: Luna Sadowski, Piper Sadowski, and Jonathan Pezzulo.

His wife, Marion Johnson, his son, Daniel Johnson, his twin brother and five sisters preceded Harold in death.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m., Sunday, April 29, 2018, at the Peterson Funeral Home, Frewsburg, with the funeral service immediately following. Pastor Tim Smart will officiate. Burial will be in Allen Cemetery.
