Donald “Don” R. Munson, of Brocton, N.Y,, passed away Saturday morning, Sept. 30, 2017, surrounded by family, at the Roswell Park Cancer Institute, after a brief illness.
Don was born March 3, 1940 to Harold and Ethel Munson and lived in Brocton all his life, graduating from Brocton Central School in 1959.
An avid hunter and fisherman, Don was an active member of the Westfield Fish & Game Club and shared his love of the outdoors with family and friends. He was a great proponent of youth shooting sports and helped bring the Trap Club back to the students of Brocton Central School.
Don was a grape farmer, formerly a patrolman for the Brocton Police Department and had worked at Lake Erie State Park, Better Baked Foods, Geiben Brothers, Walker Farms, and after retiring from Al Tech Specialty Steel became a school bus driver for Brocton Central Schools. He also owned “Don’s Gun Shop” operating out of his garage for over 35 years.
Don was a veteran having served in the Army National Guard and was a member of the American Legion Post 434 of Brocton, the Moose Club and the Brocton Fire Company (Exempts)
Don is survived by his wife of 52 years, Nancy (Nietupski) Munson; his children: Lisa (Ed) Sunday, Michael (Amy Panek) Munson and Jennifer (John) Wahl; grandchildren: Caleb and Grace Sunday, Andrew and Tyler Wahl and Brock Munson.
Besides his parents, Don was predeceased by his brother, Leonard A Munson who passed away May 3, 2007.
There will be no funeral arrangements at this time, there will be a celebration of life held at the convenience of the family.
