Selecting Sites Is Next Step For ROME Projects

Recovery Options Made Easy will soon be expanding its support in the Jamestown area.

ROME is the largest peer-run, not-for-profit organization in New York, providing recovery-based support to individuals experiencing mental health concerns across 10 counties in Western New York and the Finger Lakes region.

ROME is the Code Blue shelter provider for the county, and will be opening a Wellness Center operating 365 days a year within the year and a Supportive Crisis Stabilization Center in early 2026 for the county.

ROME CEO Jennifer Levesque said that across all of the areas it serves, ROME provides mental health and behavioral health services to individuals to help them remain independent in the community that they choose with supportive services and intervention, and these two new planned centers will help to continue that mission.

“The Supportive Crisis Stabilization Center is a New York state-offered Mental Health Licensing program,” Levesque said. “It is set up as a hospital diversity program where individuals who are having a mental health crisis and need intervention but not the hospital can be diverted from a higher service but still get the support that they need.”

For the Wellness Center, Levesque said that project is in collaboration with Chautauqua County Mental Health and Social Services, creating a community based resource for people in need without a high level of admission or criteria. Walk-ins will be allowed and the Wellness Center will also help address social needs such as homelessness and employment issues, offering a holistic approach to help people determine their mental health needs.

Both centers will provide assessments and interventions for individuals’ mental and behavioral health needs, and staff will fall under multiple different specialties. For the Crisis Stabilization Center this will include on-site staff such as a nurse or substance abuse professional, and Levesque said the Wellness Center will offer similar services but will not have a nurse.

“It will also offer case management services, employment, counseling, there will be laundry and shower services for people,” Levesque said. “There will also be job readiness and advocacy training.”

Current timelines for these centers differ slightly, with ROME recently receiving an award for the Wellness Center, and working closely with the Chautauqua County Mental Health and Social Services is in the process of creating a contract and selecting a location, which is expected to take three to six months. For the Crisis Stabilization Center, ROME is also looking for a location, and site approval will be needed by the state office.

Levesque said ROME’s mission is to provide supportive services to anyone identified as needing support to maintain independence in their own community, and part of doing that is partnering with individuals and other community based organizations that are also committed to providing the best service they can to the communities they serve.

“We want people to know that we encourage all to participate in the programs that we offer across the county,” Levesque said. “People and organizations can reach out for collaborative efforts. We pride ourselves in our collaborative efforts and want to continue to grow our opportunities to offer peer support and to continue to support the communities that we serve.”
