The Jamestown Renaissance Corporation’s Annual Third Thursday concert series is returning once again to the city in the coming months, this time with one or two new things.
The event was discussed during Monday’s public safety committee meeting, and JRC executive director Frank Besse discussed the event a little bit with the committee.
“The application before you is the same as it always was, May through September, the third Thursday of each month,” Besse said. “We are looking to add some music or entertainment in a couple of locations.”
Potential new music and entertainment for the concert series will be at Potters Terrace downtown and underneath the Reg Lenna marquee, along with what Besse referred to as the raised planter area on the corner of Third and Pine Streets. Besse said they are also looking to do some new things with merchants this year.
“The other request we have is to allow downtown merchants to have encroachment on the sidewalks, allowing for that five feet of clearance that they need for the right-of-way, but just to set up to display for their customers some merchandise or some similar activity,” Besse said.
Besides these things, Besse said the concert series will remain the same as always in the downtown Wintergarden Plaza.
Councilman Jeff Russell, R-At Large and chair of the public safety committee, said he knew there had been pushback in the past regarding food trucks for the local restaurants downtown and asked if any food trucks would be included. Besse said there will be no food trucks and that they are not seeking permission for any vendors whatsoever. In past years he said some stores have had vendors inside, but no food was involved. The public safety committee officially approved the event during their meeting.
