Any time someone is looking to adopt a cat from the Chautauqua County Humane Society, there is a plethora to choose from, but one specific cat has been at the shelter for over a year.

Twinkle is a six year old cat, who is known to be the queen of her castle or whatever home she is in. As of Feb. 26 she has been at the Humane Society for 365 days, and Brian Papalia, Chautauqua County Humane Society director of fundraising and communication, said she is one who needs to go to the home of someone who really understands cats.

“She is the queen of wherever she is,” Papalia said. “She loves attention and being in the spotlight, but when she doesn’t want attention anymore she will let you know. She needs someone who really speaks her language and understands cats. She also needs to be the only cat in the home.”

One main thing that Papalia said people need to know when it comes to Twinkle is that she is going to require patience. Just like any other animal she is going to need time to get used to her home, new surroundings and new people. For other animals this can take up to six months, Papalia said, adding that for Twinkle it may take a little while longer.

“We want her to have a home,” Papalia said. “We do everything we can here, but the Humane Society is not a home. We have the animal care staff and other people here who work hands on with Twinkle and the other animals, but then Twinkle has to wait to have access to her people. At a home she will not have to wait.”

Additionally, Papalia said when Twinkle gets adopted there will be room for another cat to come into the Humane Society to also be adopted. Someone who should be interested in adopting Twinkle is someone who should be able to spend more time with her, Papalia said.

“She needs someone who has more time at home, like senior citizens, or someone whose life can revolve around her,” Papalia said. “We know there are people like that, but they just haven’t met her yet.”

Papalia also mentioned another cat that has been at the Humane Society for a while now, Cherie, who is two years old, and who Papalia described as very sociable and lovable. Papalia said Cherie is one who has “fallen to the wayside” because of the number of cats at the Humane Society, something he said can sometimes happen, but that she is a “fantastic cat.”

The Humane Society also has an upcoming event at the beginning of April, the Community Through Hockey fundraiser on April 6 at the Northwest Arena, with some animals there for people to come and meet.

Returning to Twinkle, Papalia added that she is one that also likes to talk a lot.

“We would love for people to come and meet these cats and take one home,” Papalia said.
