Crews from the Jamestown Department of Public Works were busy Monday helping to patch parts of East Second Street up. The harsh winter weather has made East Second Street a mess of potholes. The road is scheduled to be replaced starting this year with work continuing into 2026, but Mayor Kim Ecklund and Mark Roetzer, city public works director, have been working on temporary solutions to eliminate some of the worst potholes between Jamestown and Falconer. While Second Street is a state road, the city has an agreement with the state to perform basic maintenance and plowing. At issue recently has been how much patching constitutes basic maintenance. City and state officials are splitting the cost of the work happening Monday.
