It’s time to deck the halls in the city of Jamestown as voting for the city’s holiday light contest has now officially begun.

During Monday’s work session, Jamestown Mayor Kim Ecklund said there have been about 90 houses nominated throughout the city. Ecklund said some pictures submitted were not as good as others and that she and her staff went around and took some pictures of the houses themselves before uploading them to the website.

“The three of us when we got pictures that we thought were not good enough for people to see to vote on really took to the streets to take some pictures,” Ecklund said. “I actually informed the police department that if they got a complaint about people taking pictures of houses in the neighborhood, it was just us. We did that and finished those in, and Joe and Ashlan worked very hard today, and the voting is live.”

Each winning home will receive a $100 ShopLocalCHQ gift card, redeemable at over 165 local businesses. Those interested in voting can vote one time per email for the top three houses in each ward. Voting will go through the weekend with the winners to be announced next Monday and is online only.

“Joe went live with it at 4:30/5 o’clock and I believe when we came in here we already had 15 votes,” Ecklund said. “So, people have submitted votes. Encourage your neighbors to go out and take a look and vote.”
