Velvety-Smooth Tones
Puddles Pity Party To Perform Friday At The Reg Lenna
When you hear his voice, you instantly are drawn to his velvety-smooth tones.
Known as Puddles, the nearly 7-foot clown has the pipes to sing songs.
And Puddles Pity Party is scheduled to perform Friday at 7:30 p.m., at The Reg Lenna Center for The Arts, 116 E. Third St.
Puddles rarely speaks, but Big Mike Geier, acting as a confidant, sometimes speaks for Puddles. Through Geier, Puddles responds to email.
According to his biography, Puddles deftly combines melancholy with the absurd, and Puddles is a performer’s performer, having received endorsements and accolades from musical comedy legends like Weird Al Yankovic, Jack Black, Michael McKean, Drew Carey, Nick Offerman, John C. Reilly and Paul Reubens.
Puddles, the bio said, often compared to rock legends like Tom Jones and Freddie Mercury, has amassed over 900K YouTube subscribers.
Puddles said he doesn’t prepare much for a performance.
“I’m not much of a prepper. But I do sometimes apply tried and true vocal warm-ups that fellow crooners have shown me, like the one where you repeat the magical phrase ‘Mommy made me mash my M&M’s.’ I don’t know why someone’s mom is out there making her kid mash his M&M’s. Or how that kid discovered the vocal benefits of complaining about it. But it works for me,” Puddles wrote in an email. “Another fun pre-show warmup is greeting members of the audience, so I can feel some camaraderie to calm my nerves.”
Puddles said he chooses his songs based on whatever moves him at the time, and he often receives requests from friends and fans.
“I take requests, but that doesn’t mean I’ll do them,” Puddles added.
But, Puddles wrote, that once he settles on a song, the arrangements come from musicians that he enjoys collaborating with including Time DeLaney, James Beaton, Scott Simmons, and Dave Hill.
Puddles is currently featured in Eric Idle’s touring show, singing a duet of “The Galaxy Song.” Idle is a former member of Monty Python, the bio continued. Puddles also wrapped a summer tour with Primus and Coheed plus Cambria, enjoying stage time with Primus singing a surprise cover of Ronnie James Dio’s “Holy Diver” that has since gone viral on YouTube. Earlier in 2024, Puddles sang with Maynard James Keenan on the Sessanta tour and was a featured performer at the Netflix is a Joke comedy festival. And Neil Gaiman invited Puddles to sing at his specially curated gala for The Art of Elysium in Los Angeles. Puddles was a quarter finalist on Season 12 of America’s Got Talent and appeared on the 2020 season of AGT The Champions.
