Joy Fellowship Jamestown Free Methodist Church is a small church with a small food pantry.

But for the 20 to 30 families the church helps each month, Joy Fellowship is an essential lifeline. That lifeline is wearing thin as Thanksgiving and Christmas approach – and the story at Joy Fellowship is being told around the city.

The church, located at 515 E. Seventh St., is among those looking for the community’s help.

“We’re a small church, and at times It’s a struggle just to keep the lights on, but we have a food pantry, and we help between 20 and 30 families a week,” said Senior Pastor Dodi McIntyre. “We have a cafe where we serve warm, hot, foods and we have our food pantry.”

According to Ruth Baker, a church member who runs the church’s food pantry program, there are specific items the church needs.

Members of Conduit Ministries package hot meals in June, at Brooklyn Square as part of the church’s Food Truck program. This year Conduit Church is set to pass out 1,500 free Thanksgiving meals at 10 different locations in an attempt to alleviate some of the food insecurities people are facing in the Jamestown area during the holidays. “Many of our families live on canned protein products. Like tuna fish, jerky and other canned meats,” she said. “Also, shampoo, bars of soap and especially laundry detergent we could use. Laundry detergent we can’t ever have enough of, and we must ration it out as we get it. We also go through a ton of dry cereal. We always have a need for it.”

McIntyre said the church’s café is open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. till 2 p.m. weekly.
