Newcomer Molitor Wins Assembly Seat
There is a new face for the 150th Assembly District.
On Tuesday, Andrew Molitor defeated Mike Bobseine to take over the seat which is currently represented by Andy Goodell. Goodell chose not to seek re-election.
Molitor ran on the Republican and Conservative lines, while Bobseine ran on the Democratic, Working Families, and Restore Freedom lines.
The 150th District includes all of Chautauqua County, as well as the Seneca Nation of Indians.
Unofficial totals show Molitor received about 60% of the vote, compared to Bobseine who received about 35%. The remaining 5% were blank, void or write-in votes.
Molitor, who is an assistant district attorney, said he is looking forward to a new role. “It’s really exciting. It’s an honor of a lifetime to represent the people of this district,” he said.
Molitor thanked those who supported his campaign. “I’m appreciative of the voters. They’ve placed their trust in me and I’m ready to serve them and fight for them in Albany,” he said.
Tuesday night, Goodell was with Molitor as the results came in. “He’s been very congratulatory and excited,” Molitor said.
Republicans in the state Assembly have been in the minority and that wasn’t expected to change Tuesday night.
Still, Molitor believes he can be effective, even though he’s a Republican. “I think it all starts with respect. I have respect for my Democratic colleagues in the Assembly and I hope to be able to have respectful conversations with them about the issues and hopefully convince them that some of the laws that they’ve passed need to change and change for the better for the people of New York,” he said.
