More Complaints Regarding Beaujean Road Residence

MAYVILLE – For more than a year, neighbors have been alleging there’s illegal burning and other violations taking place at a home on Beaujean Road, not far from Chautauqua Lake Central School, just outside village limits.

The latest complaints came at the October Chautauqua Town Board meeting.

Neighbor Thomas Lescynski said another fire broke out there on Oct. 5. He said there were “explosions,” which he believes was caused by the manufacturing of illegal drugs.

Apparently a camper on the property caught fire. No reports were issued by the Sheriff’s Office.

Two days before the fire, he said the illegal burning was evident.

“Thursday (Oct. 3), I could not go outdoors from 10 o’clock until 6 because I couldn’t breathe the air,” Lescynski said.

He believes they were burning garbage and plastic.

“This has to proceed to get to the county to address the situation – address Beaujean Road, address the school, the town, and the county. This is something that is ongoing, not just here, but everywhere,” he said.

The town board has applied for documentation from the Sheriff’s Office in building a case, alleging that the residence is violating town codes.

Supervisor Don Emhardt said he understands the frustrations.

“I was out there at that fire. The violations there are through the roof,” he alleged.

Emhart agreed that the problems are going on too long. He said he has spoken with the Sheriff’s Office, the county Health Department and others trying to address the problem.

“It’s really, really, really frustrating,” he said.

Town Attorney Joel Seachrist said they are making progress in building their case, but warned that the courts take time.

“Don’t view the filing of the action by the town as the silver bullet that’s going to automatically correct everything,” he said.

Lescynski said he has reached out to the state Department of Environmental Conservation and they are investigating the problems as well.

Seachrist offered to speak to the DEC officer that Lescynski has been in contact with to see if together they can build a case quicker.

For more than a year, neighbors on Beaujean Road have issued complaints to town officials over the number of outbuildings and campers on the property, illegal burning, suspected septic violations, and possible drug violations taking place at 7127 Beaujean Road.

The Oct. 5 fire is the third time in a year that officials have been called to a fire at that residence.
