FALCONER – A village eatery and its owner has been honored by the Falconer Village Board.

Mayor James Jaroszynski said Gary Visosky, the owner of the Belle-View East restaurant, turned 83 and his popular eatery turned 33 last week.

“Thank you, thank you everyone,” said Visosky. “It has been a long 33 years, but a good 33 years. The village has been wonderful to us, and I could not be proud of my staff and all our loyal customers that have kept us busy through the years. This is a nice and touching thing you have done for us.”

In an Aug. 30, Post-Journal article, Visosky offered specials for one-week where he rolled his prices back to pre-COVID-19 prices.

“This is a thank you to all our loyal customers and supporters who’ve allowed us to remain in business for 33 years,” he said regarding the roll-back specials he offered.

Jaroszynski, also reported that the long-time village Director of Public Works Carl Caprino, had officially retired and he proposed that the village hire the current and acting Deputy Director of Public Works Avery Faulkner into the now vacant position. The motion passed and was carried with unanimous support.

In other business:

– Village Treasurer Paula Spunaugle, reported that the village is on-point and with its expected sales tax revenues, and despite what other municipalities in Chautauqua County are reporting the village is on safer ground.

“We estimated extremely low,” she said. “We really didn’t plan for any increase in sales tax revenue, so that’s part of the reason we’re on budget.”

Spunaugle said that she budgeted for approximately $92,923 to be collected and thus far the village has collected $101,447.

“It’s dangerous to base our sales tax income off of other years,” said Trustee Timothy Dunn.

“We purposely estimate low to give ourselves a buffer,” said Jaroszynski.

– Laurie Becker, the director of The Falconer Public Library reported the library’s summer programming had been successful. Ninety-three individuals attended the Summer Reading Kick-off event; 22 people kept travelling journals; 21 individuals participated in the Cardboard Creations program; 28 participants took part in the Songs and S’mores program; 59 would-be athletes competed in the Falconer Public Library Olympic Games; 16 people tried the Map Bookmakers program and 60 program participants were part of the Summer Reading Final event where they were treated to ice cream treats.

Additionally, the summer band concert series was also well attended.

“The Miranda Wilcox performance had 92 participants, Pearl City Jazz had 210 goers, New Horizons had 157 people attended, Razz and friends had 108, and surprisingly our Music to Remember concert only had 41 people attend,” said Becker.

Starting at $2.99/week.
