City Police Seek Truck As Part Of Homicide Investigation

Jamestown police officers have released images of a pick-up truck whose owner and operator they are trying to identify as part of a homicide investigation.

“There is a photo attached from the area and we are asking for assistance in identifying the owner and operator of the dark colored pick-up truck in the picture. We are asking that anyone with information to please call the Jamestown Command Desk at 716-483-7537 or the confidential tip line at 716-483-8477 (TIPS).”

Around 8:40 p.m. Sept. 10, officers responded to the area of Newland and Forest avenues for a reported shooting incident. Officers found Doug Howie, 68, of Jamestown, at the scene suffering from a bullet wound. The Jamestown Fire Department and Alstar Ambulance Service also responded and treated the victim of his wounds. He was transported to UPMC Chautauqua and subsequently flown to Hamot Medical Center in Erie, Pa., where Howie succumbed to his wounds.

Howie is survived by his children, Kayleen Howie, Tyler Perez and Robert Hamilton, his grandchildren, Ty’Shaun Howie, Bri’Ella Howie, Tiahjae Perez, Ezra Hodnett, Honor Hodnett, Brandon Hamilton and Stevie Hamilton, his sister, Marcia Howie and her girls, Shayleen Taylor and Kayla Thomas as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Also surviving is his long-term companion, Rose Hamilton.

According to his obituary, Howie worked for The Resource Center, Brigiotta’s and in construction. Doug enjoyed playing pool, hosting cookouts and watching the Oakland Raiders. Most of all, according to the obituary, he loved to spend time with his grandchildren.

Howie’s homicide is the seventh in Chautauqua County since the beginning of the year.

Howie’s killing is the latest incident in what has been a difficult year for Jamestown when it comes to shootings. According to Gun Involved Violence Elimination program statistics submitted by the Jamestown Police Department to the state, there have been five more shootings through the end of August than there were through August 2023, seven more shooting victims and two more fatal shootings. Jamestown’s seven shootings through the end of August are the most of any of the cities involved in Tier II of the GIVE program, as are the city’s number of shooting victims (9) and individuals killed by a firearm (3).
