Deteriorating Weather Creates Hazards On Interstates

Motorists heading west on the New York state Thruway are being forced to exit at Dunkirk-Fredonia due to an accident that has put traffic at a standstill.

According to the state Thruway Authority, all westbound lanes are blocked in the Brigham Road and Temple Road vicinity due to the accident that occurred around 12:15 p.m. Friday. At least one person was complaining of a facial injury.

Farther west, restrictions were already in place.

Due to the severity of the winter storm, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is temporarily reducing the speed limit on Interstates 90, 86, and 79 in Erie County, Pa.

PennDOT is urging motorists to avoid unnecessary travel but those who must head out will see speeds reduced to 45 mph on the following highways:

— I-86 from the beginning of I-86 to the New York state line.

— I-90 from the Ohio state line to the New York state line.

— I-79 from Exit 166 (Route 6N – Albion/Edinboro) to the end of I-79.
