‘I Love What I do’: Robin Lawson Is A Mover And A Shaker In Community Youth Movement

Robin Lawson, the program director for the Winifred Crawford Dibert Boys & Girls Club of Jamestown is surrounded by several club members, all of whom know, respect and love this 22-year child and youth advocate, supporter and boon for our area.

To be an employee of the Winifred Crawford Dibert Boys & Girls Club of Jamestown, one must have a love and passion for working with children.

Kids come to the Jamestown Boys and Girls club for fun, education, safety and personal development. One of the adults who fills all of those buckets is Robin Lawson, the program director at the club. And by all accounts her passion for working with children is unbridled, unmatched and unparalleled.

“I love what I do,” said Lawson. “I’ve been employed here for 22 years. I started in the game room many years ago and just fell in love with the place, the children and my coworkers.”

Some of the duties Lawson is responsible for include prevention and youth services; drug and alcohol prevention and education; social mentoring; workforce readiness, training staff members, ensuring the computer labs have high yield learning programing and much, much more. However, for this married mother of one, working with the youth has been a life-long calling.

“After graduating from Jamestown Community College, I worked at Kidder Church as part of their Reach Out youth program,” said Lawson. “I was also a pre-school volunteer.”

Furthermore, while Lawson enjoys reading, swimming and traveling her mission-driven focus and her organization of choice isn’t far from her mind.

“Everyone is welcome here,” said Lawson. “All kids have goals, aspirations and dreams, and sometimes you need someone to help you with that. I just want to make a difference in a child’s life.”

Catching the eye and taking notice of the value Lawson brings to the table, the Boys and Girls Club executive director stated.

“Robin is an excellent role model, mentor and leader with our youth members and our staff. She has been with the Club for 22 years and currently serves as our program director. All of the kids at the club, yes all of them, know Robin, respect her and look to her for guidance and support in many ways,” said Jeff Kroon, longtime Boys & Girls Club executive director.

Because of Lawson’s grounded, mission-focused, heart and passion for the local area youth… She’s been identified as not only a valuable employee, but a friend to the Pearl City’s school-aged children as well. Proving she’s a real boon for the area and a gem for those in need of a little light, help and guidance. Because of the sheer character of her nature and the gravitas of her calling, Lawson has become one of those few who makes Jamestown a wonderful place to live, grow and work in.
