Sneak Peak Inside: Town Officials ‘Beyond Excited’ As Target Nears Opening
About 100 jobs have been created with Target coming to West Ellicott. The 117,000-square-foot store will open its doors for the first time this Sunday.
“We’re excited to bring the joy of Target to new guests and help them discover a unique shopping experience tailored to the needs of the Jamestown community,” said Jace Mcgrath, director of the new Jamestown Target store. “We offer a wide assortment of Target’s top owned and national brands spanning back to school and college, adult beverage and much more, as well as a convenient CVS pharmacy, Ulta Beauty and Starbucks location. Guests can also shop on their own terms with our easy, contactless and industry-leading Drive Up, Order Pickup, and same-day delivery with Shipt services — ready within a couple of hours with no membership required for the easiest shopping experience in retail.”
Target, located at 975 Fairmount Ave. at the former Kmart site, will be open seven days a week, from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
“On behalf of the Town of Ellicott and the County of Chautauqua, I want to extend the warmest of welcomes to Target,” Ellicott Town Supervisor Janet Bowman said. “The residents here and visitors to our area have been excited since the announcement that Target was opening a store in Ellicott. The Town Board and I have share in the enthusiasm. We look forward to the opportunities Target will bring to our area and will continue to work with Target to ensure the success of their new store.”
Kmart closed its doors in the fall of 2019. About two years later, Target confirmed it was purchasing the property, and since then has undertaken a major rehabilitaiton of the site, complete with a remodel of the store and a new parking lot.
The arrival of Target ensured the former Kmart building would not sit vacant for long.
Target said it operates about 2,000 stores nationwide, with 20 stores scheduled to open this year in a mix of sizes.
Last year, Target said it donated more than $14.2 million in cash and products to area nonprofits in New York state, including more than 6.8 million pounds of food to local food banks.
“We are committed to providing team members with the most rewarding careers,” the company said. “Since 2017, we’ve invested in pay and benefits that include a $15-$24 per hour starting wage range, tuition-free education assistance, access to counseling services and doctors and more stable schedules.”
