Jamestown Home Damaged By ‘Heavy Flames’
A residence on Jamestown’s north side sustained significant damage in a blaze that broke out Wednesday.
City crews were alerted around 4:40 p.m. to the fire at 860 N. Main St., between West 10th and West 11th streets.
According to Matt Coon, deputy chief with the Jamestown Fire Department, crews encountered “heavy flames and smoke” coming from a second floor apartment and that was extending into the attic. Upon arrival, Coon said flames could be seen shooting from windows on the second floor.
Nine firefighters from the department’s third platoon responded to the scene, and additional personnel were requested.
Firefighters first doused the exterior of the property before attempting to enter to knock the fire down. However, Coon said the initial interior attack was “unsuccessful” due to fire conditions.
Coon said it appears no one was home when the fire broke out. No injuries were reported.
Jamestown police closed a portion of North Main Street to traffic.
Investigators were later summoned to the scene.
