Falconer Disc Golf Course Receives Early Praise
FALCONER — Early reviews for a new disc golf course at Falconer Village Park are coming back positive.
Tony Baker and his son, Chase, were recently at the park to play the newly established nine-hole course. The Mayville residents are fans of the sport and regularly play at local courses in Jamestown and Busti, among others.
As Tony Baker noted, disc golf is much cheaper to get into than traditional golf and doesn’t require a lot of equipment — just a few discs. During their first visit, the Bakers had already completed the nine-hole course and were making their way around for a second time.
Disc golf, also referred to as Frisbee golf, is a sport growing in popularity in which players throw discs at a target, sometimes metal baskets, at the end of each hole. It is played using rules similar to golf.
The installation of Falconer’s course has been funded by the Rotary Foundation and local Falconer Rotary Club. The total project was estimated to cost about $5,000.
Village resident Steve Garvey praised efforts of the Falconer Rotary Club in helping to have the course installed. “It just looks tremendous,” Garvey told Falconer Village Board members at their recent meeting.
Village officials believe increased use of the park will deter vandalism.
A future ribbon-cutting ceremony is being planned to officially open the disc golf course.
