Across the Chautauqua County Fairgrounds, 4-H’ers can be found in their respective barns and preparing their animals for show.
Wednesday’s activities included goat and dairy shows. All regular activities on the Midway and across the fairground were ongoing as well.
In the goat and dairy barns, all of the showing kids were getting ready. “I am having a blast with my goats,” Greyson Kwilos said.
When talking with The Post-Journal, Kwilos was working on getting his market goat, Fredrick, ready to show.
For the dairy youth, the open class show took up the morning and early afternoon, beginning with the Holstein classes and ending with the Brown Swiss breed.

The Carlberg family has both dairy cows and goats at the fair this year, and expressed that they are having a great time. “I enjoy showing my pygmy goats and calves,” Abigail Carlberg said. “I also enjoy milkshakes and hanging out with my friends.”
Her sister, Anna, agreed. “The fair is so much fun,” she said.
Jillian Bond, who is also serving as a Junior Superintendent in the dairy barn this year, said the fair is also a good way to teach the public about agriculture and their animals.
“It’s fun and a good way to see the people that I only get to see once a year,” Bond said. “It’s also nice to show the public our animals, introduce them to agriculture and to answer their questions.”
More animal shows continue throughout the week, including sheep shows Wednesday night, the 4-H Dairy Cattle and Showmanship Shows today and sheep shows continuing later in the afternoon. Friday’s events include the dairy judging contest for 4-H and FFA members, and the annual Meat Animal Sale at noon. Saturday wraps up the week with the Holstein show, 4-H All Animal Fun Show and the Herdsman Award Ceremony. The fair is open to the public until Sunday.
