UPDATE: One Injured After Fire Breaks Out At Bullfrog Hotel
One person suffered burn injuries after fire broke out Tuesday morning at a city property that houses a longtime tavern and several apartments.
Jamestown firefighters were called to the Bullfrog Hotel, 1414 E. Second St., at about 8:15 a.m. for a fire inside a second floor apartment.
Matt Coon, deputy fire chief, said crews were able to locate one victim who suffered burn injuries as a result of the morning blaze. That victim, Coon said, was transported to UPMC Chautauqua for treatment and an update on their condition was not immediately known.
No other injuries were reported; a few tenants escaped safely Tuesday, and it’s believed others were not inside when the fire started.
The Bullfrog Hotel contains a tavern on the first floor and apartments on the second and third floors. Coon said it appears the fire started in a second floor apartment and then extended into another apartment above it on the third floor.
City fire investigators were later called to the scene. The cause of the blaze was not yet known.
Also at the scene was Theodore Langworthy, who has owned the property for 43 years. Langworthy said he was at a doctors appointment Tuesday morning for a checkup when he was alerted to the fire.
“I had to jump up and leave,” he told reporters as he watched city firefighters work on the structure.
On the way down East Second Street, Langworthy said he was relieved not to see any flames or too much smoke as he approached. He said the Jamestown Fire Department was doing a “fine job” about an hour after the fire first broke out.
He said there are seven or eight tenants who reside in the apartments above the tavern. He was almost at a loss for words to describe those who may be displaced due to the fire.
