Man Killed After Pulling Firearm On Police Officer

Emergency vehicles surround the Mead Township scene of an officer-involved fatal shooting Friday evening in Warren County, Pa. According to District Attorney Rob Greene, an officer made a traffic stop at Dairy Delite. The suspect pulled a firearm on the officer who responded by fatally shooting the suspect, Greene said.

WARREN, Pa. — A man was shot and killed near the city of Warren, Pa., after reportedly pulling a firearm on an officer Friday night.

Pennsylvania State Police said the officer-involved shooting occurred around 7:30 p.m. following a traffic stop in the parking lot of Dairy Delite, an ice cream and frozen yogurt shop at the intersection of Route 6 and Kinzua Road just outside city limits. Police said the stop involved a 54-year-old male and an officer with the City of Warren Police Department.

According to a report by state police, “during the stop, the operator exited the vehicle with the weapon, resulting in shots being fired.”

Rob Greene, Warren County district attorney, said the shots were the result of the suspect “pulling a firearm on the officer.”

The suspect died from wounds at the scene, police said.

No one else was injured in the incident, Greene said Friday night. The ice cream shop was reportedly full of patrons at the time of the shooting.

The name of the suspect was not released pending notification of relatives. The name of the officer involved also was not released by state police.

“At this time, the shooting appears to be justified,” Greene said.

Route 6 was opened to traffic in one direction at a time late Friday. Police were assisted by firefighters from Clarendon, Glade and Pleasant townships in Pennsylvania.

Investigators from Erie, Pa., were traveling to the scene, Greene said. State police said it will be conducting an investigation with City of Warren Police, the Warren County Sheriff’s Office and the Warren County District Attorney’s Office.
