CHAUTAUQUA COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT
— CHAUTAUQUA — At 10:15 p.m. Saturday, Robert Grover, 25, of Mayville, was traveling northbound on Morris Road when he struck a cow. He lost control of his vehicle, which overturned in a ditch. He was transported by Chautauqua Fire Department to Westfield Memorial Hospital for treatment of his injuries.
— WESTFIELD — On March 25, at about 01:34 p.m., deputies were dispatched to the report of animal cruelty which had occurred on Washington Street in the village. After an investigation it was found that John Patterson, 53, did neglect care for a 4-year-old golden retriever. The dog was taken to Orchard Park Veterinary Medical Center where it received care and treatment. Patterson was issued an appearance ticket and is set to appear in the Village of Westfield Court at a later date.
— FRENCH CREEK — At 12:37 a.m. Saturday, the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office conducted a vehicle traffic stop on Brownell Road. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Jonathan E. Hulett, 25, of Clymer. Upon further investigation, it was determined that Hulett was driving while intoxicated. Hulett was charged with driving while intoxicated, aggravated DWI, failing to keep right, improper plates, inadequate/no muffler, consumption of alcohol in a motor vehicle. Hulett will be in Mina Town Court later.
— At approximately 2:38 a.m. Sunday the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Department conducted a traffic stop on Route 20 in the village of Fredonia. The operator of the vehicle was identified as John M. Fierro, 19. Further investigation found Fierro to be driving while intoxicated. Fierro was charged with DWI, and speed in zone. Fierro will answer his charges in the village court later.
JAMESTOWN POLICE DEPARTMENT
— Silk E Spencer, 38, of Jamestown, is facing a number of charges after a Saturday morning altercation.
Spencer was charged with three counts of first-degree criminal contempt, three counts of endangering the welfare of a child, third-degree criminal mischief, second-degree aggravated harassment and second-degree attempted burglary.
Around 1 a.m., officers located a physical domestic at an address on the city’s South side. Officers located Spencer actively trying to force entry into the residence by breaking the door. He was also actively engaged in a physical altercation with a subject who has a stay away order of protection against Spencer. Spencer was immediatley taken into custody by officers. During the investigation, officers determined Spencer had damaged property while trying to gain entry. Officers also discovered the incident was witnessed by three children under the age of 6 years old. All were scared and visibly upset by the incident.
As officers continued to investigate they discovered Spencer had another order of protection to stay away from two of the children that were inside the residence. While speaking to the resident who lives at the address, officers were informed that he had also sent multiple messages threatening harm to her and her property. He was transported to the Jamestown City Jail where he was housed pending arraignment.
— Nylix J. Thomas, 23, of Jamestown was charged with failing to keep right, second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, tampering with physcial evidence, resisting arrest and second-degree escape.
At 4:56 p.m. Wednesday, officers were conducting a Gun Involved Violence Elimination operation near Pronto Mart on Forest Avenue when they observed Thomas entering the driver’s seat of a vehicle.
Thomas, who had an active warrant from the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office and a suspended license, drove away from the location. Officers were able to stop the vehicle on Park Street near Linden Avenue.
Upon making contact with Thomas and the passenger in the vehicle, officers confirmed the warrant and asked Thomas to exit the vehicle. When he did, Thomas attempted to flee from the officers, resulting in a brief chase.
He was subsequently taken into custody and transported to the City Jail. While being taken out of the patrol car at the City Jail, he again tried to escape, leading to a second foot pursuit, during which he was apprehended shortly thereafter. He was held pending arraignment.
Once back at the City Jail, it was discovered that he was in possession of a loaded handgun.
— Nathan E. Manhart, 40, of Jamestown was charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief on Saturday.
At around 7:19 p.m., officers responded to a residence on the West side of Jamestown for the report of a domestic dispute. Through an investigation it was found that Manhart broke the victim’s property. Manhart was being held pending arraignment.
