Calves Injured In Barn Fire

CHAUTAUQUA — Several calves were injured in a Saturday morning blaze at a farm.

At around 5:31 a.m., the Sherman Fire Department and several mutual aid departments responded to the Sherman Livestock Barn at 4151 Route 430 for a reported structure fire. After extinguishing the fire, the Chautauqua County Fire Investigation Team was requested to the scene to conduct an origin and cause fire investigation.

An investigation found that the fire was caused by a heat lamp coming into contact with combustibles.

Cigarette Blamed For

House Fire In Forestville

FORESTVILLE — A cigarette is being blamed for a fire Saturday morning in this hamlet.

Around 10:12 a.m., Forestville Fire Department and mutual aid responded to the residential blaze at 54 Pearl St. Once extinguished the Chautauqua County Fire Investigation Team responded to the scene to assist in determining the origin and cause of the fire.

Following an investigation it was determined the fire originated on the front porch due to a cigarette coming in contact with combustible material. No injuries were reported.

SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT

— POLAND — At around 8:50 p.m. Saturday, the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office responded to a single motor vehicle accident on Quaint Road. The operator was identified as James D. Mcgrath, 54 of Falconer. Further investigation found Mcgrath to be driving while intoxicated. He was charged with DWI, speed not reasonable or prudent, and failure to stop at a stop sign.

He was transported from the scene by EMS to UPMC Jamestown and will answer for his charges later.

— HARMONY — At around 5:15 p.m. Saturday, the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office responded to Kings Corners and Weeks roads for a report of a motor vehicle accident. The operator was identified as 54-year-old Ronald P. Huntington of Clymer. Further investigation found Huntington to be driving while intoxicated.

He was charged with DWI, DWI per se, and moving from lane unsafely. He will answer for his charges later.

— HANOVER — At around 10:23 p.m. Friday, deputies conducted a traffic stop on Routes 5 and 20. The operator was identified as 56-year-old Lisa M. Longboat of Versailles. Further investigation found Longboat to be driving while intoxicated.

She was arrested and charaged with DWI, first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, consumption of alcohol in a motor vehicle, and insufficient tail lamps. She will answer for her charges in town court later.

JAMESTOWN POLICE

DEPARTMENT

— Dale R. Linkous, 26, of Jamestown was charged with third-deree and fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, second-degree criminally using drug paraphernalia and having a bench warrant.

At about 3:35 p.m. Friday, officers responded to a South side address for an unwanted person. Officers were advised Linkous was inside of the apartment, and was no longer welcome. Officers had prior knowledge that Linkous had an active bench warrant out of the city of Jamestown.

Officers located Linkous sitting on a couch and advised him of his warrant. Officers observed Linkous’ attempt to conceal items in a backpack that was next to him. Linkous was placed into custody and transported to the city jail without incident. When searching Linkous and the backpack, officers located a quantity of fentanyl and crack cocaine, which was packaged for sale. Officers also located containers of methadone (a controlled substance) and digital scales. Linkous was held in the City Jail pending his arraignment.

— Brittany A. Smith, 31, of Jamestown, was charged with second-degree unlawful imprisonment, third-degree assault and fourth-degree criminal mischief.

At 3:32 a.m. Saturday, n officers responded to an address on the northside of Jamestown for a Domestic Dispute. When officers arrived on scene they were able to determine that during the course of a domestic dispute it was found that Smith would not let a victim leave his residence.

The defendant struck the victim in the face causing physical injury. Smith then broke property belonging to the victim during the dispute. She was being held pending arraignment.

— Carlos J. Ruiz, 27, of Panama was charged with leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident, driving while intoxicated, first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation and resisting arrest.

Officers responded to the West Third Street incident around midnight Sunday and the suspected vehicle had fled the scene. Around 1:18 a.m., the Jamestown Police K-9 unit observed the suspect vehicle on East Second St. and conducted a traffic stop. Officers determined that the operator, Ruiz, was driving while intoxicated. Ruiz began to physically fight and resist arrest, however, he was taken into custody. Additionally, Ruiz was wanted on a felony charge out of the City of Olean. He was transported to the City Jail and held for arraignment.
