Jamestown Firefighters Quickly Contain Kitchen Blaze

A kitchen fire at 33 Sturges St. in Jamestown was quickly contained by firefighters.

Jamestown Fire Department reports the incident took place around 1:22 a.m. Sunday. When crews arrived, fire was visible through a first-floor window. Once the fire was knocked down, a search of the residence took place.

Firefighters found four cats that were returned to the owner and noted that working smoke alarms resulted in early detection of the fire.

Crews were back in service after 5 a.m.

JAMESTOWN POLICE DEPARTMENT

— A city woman has been charged with falsely reporting an incident.

At 7:45 p.m. Friday, officers responded to the intersection of an eastside address for a report of a female gunshot victim, who had been shot in the head.

Upon arrival, Officers located the caller, Lilly A. James, 58, who pointed officers to a house up the road from her location. While speaking with James, she stated that she had received the information about the victim from a third party. Through further investigation, it was found that she had fabricated the entire incident.

James was placed into custody without incident for third-degree falsely reporting an incident.

She was transported to Jamestown City Jail where she was processed and released on an appearance ticket in accordance with state Bail Reform.

— Latrisha S. McCarty, 55, of Clymer, was charged with three counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Around 8:14 p.m. Friday, officers conducted a traffic stop in the area of Liberty and Falconer streets for moving and equipment violations. During the course of the investigation it was determined that the operator of the vehicle, McCarty was in possession of a quantity of methamphetamine and two different controlled pills. The incident marked the third time this year that McCarty was located in the vicinity of Liberty Street and found to be in possession of methamphetamine during each incident.

Due to failing to appear for previous court dates she was held pending arraignment in the Jamestown City Jail.

— Robbie M. Stearns, 29, of Jamestown, was charged with resisting arrest after being found in Brooklyn Square. Around 7:17 a.m. Friday, officers noticed Stearns walking in the area.

Officers were aware that Stearns had active warrants for his arrest for seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, tampering with physical evidence, as well as numerous bench warrants for failing to appear on previous charges.

The officers attempted to apprehend Stearns, but he was non-compliant and resisted arrest. After a brief struggle, Stearns was taken into custody after the deployment of a conducted electrical weapon by the officers.

He was being held in the Jamestown City Jail pending arraignment.
