ELLICOTT POLICE DEPARTMENT
¯ Jason D. Kavanaugh, 48, no address listed, was charged with petit larceny. Patrol was called Monday to Wegmans for a reported shoplifter. An investigation found that Kavanaugh allegedly exited the store without paying for $354.58 worth of items. Kavanaugh is scheduled to appear in Ellicott Town Court later.
JAMESTOWN POLICE DEPARTMENT
¯ John M. Schmitz, 39, of Jamestown, was charged with no /insufficient tail lamp and fugitive from justice. Patrol stopped a vehicle at 12:38 a.m. Tuesday in the area of North Main and East Sixth streets for a vehicle with an insufficient tail lamp. An investigation found that Schmitz had allegedly been wanted by the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office in Florida for over 20 years for felony tampering with a witness. Schmitz was transported to Jamestown City Jail and held for arraignment on the fugitive from justice charge.
¯ Joseph L. Brisson, 49, of Jamestown, was charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief. Police responded at 3:30 p.m. Monday to the north side of the city for a criminal mischief complaint involving male shooting a neighbor’s windows with a pellet gun. A probe found that Brisson intentionally shot the BBs at the windows. He was transported to jail and held for arraignment in Jamestown City Court.
SENTENCING
¯ Scott Eddy, 23, of Jamestown, was sentenced Monday by County Court Judge David Foley to 1 1/3 to 4 years in state prison on a conviction of second-degree attempted assault. The Feb. 7 conviction is the result of an incident that occurred last November in which Eddy assaulted an inmate at the Chautauqua County Jail while confined there on an unrelated matter.
