Arrest Made In Robbery Involving Gun
WARREN — A Warren man is accused of showing a gun during the Monday night robbery of a Warren business and taking over $2,000.
Lamar A. Keys, 43, is charged with robbery, two counts of recklessly endangering another person, and theft by unlawful taking.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, City of Warren Police were called to the Family Dollar on Pennsylvania Ave., W., after 10 p.m. Monday.
Employees there described a man who had entered the store just before closing, “brandished a firearm to the workers,” and “requested cash and cigarettes,” according to the affidavit.
Employees said over $2,000 was taken, along with eight or nine packs of Newport 100 cigarettes, police said. They also said one $100 bill, $450 in $50 bills, and at least $940 in $20 bills were among the denominations taken.
Video from a nearby business showed a person who seemed to match the description given by employees getting out of a vehicle on Chestnut Street and walking toward Pennsylvania Avenue.
Police found Keys, who matched the descriptions, about three blocks away, according to the affidavit.
“The defendant was searched prior to being transported to Warren City Police Department,” according to police. That search resulted in “$1,665 cash with $15 in $5 bills, $1,100 in $20 bills, $450 in $50 bills, one $100 bill, and one unopened pack of Newport 100 cigarettes.”
According to the affidavit, Keys spoke with police and admitted to being the man in the video, but did not admit to any of the alleged criminal activity.
Keys was arraigned Tuesday morning before District Judge Raymond Zydonik and taken to Warren County jail after failing to post $35,000 bail.
A preliminary hearing is set for 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31.
