City Man Jailed In Connection With 2021 Shooting Death
MAYVILLE — Nearly a year after a Jamestown man was shot and killed outside his Water Street home, an indictment has been announced by the Chautauqua County District Attorney’s Office.
Jonathan Camacho-Monge, 23, was arraigned Thursday morning on a second-degree murder charge in front of Chautauqua County Court Judge David Foley. The judge set bail at $250,000 cash or $500,000 property bond.
Officers were summoned the night of Oct. 19, 2021, to the home of Angel Pacheco at 61 Water St., between Foote Avenue King Street, for a report of a gunshot victim. Pacheco, 46, was taken by ambulance to UPMC Chautauqua where he later died of his injuries.
A woman who lives near the scene told The Post-Journal at the time, “We heard a boom, and before you know it we seen lights going by the house. Someone came by and heard on the scanner it was a gunshot.”
It was not reported how many shots were fired, or if they came from someone walking by or in a vehicle. That night, officers could be seen outside the residence searching the area with flashlights that included a nearby sport utility vehicle.
In addition to Jamestown police, the county Forensic Investigation Team and members of the county District Attorney’s Office responded to the scene.
Camacho-Monge is being represented by the Chautauqua County Public Defender’s Office, and he is scheduled to return to court Nov. 14.
An indictment on the lone murder charge, according to the DA’s office, was filed May 2. However, the case was delayed due to Camacho-Monge being held in Pennsylvania on a felony-level charge for about 6 months.
“This is an excellent example of the Jamestown Police Department detectives doing a thorough job in order to seek justice,” Jamestown Police Chief Timothy Jackson said in a statement released by the DA’s office. “The detectives spend months working this case and their tireless efforts are commendable.”
Camacho-Monge has faced charges at least twice in the last few years. In October 2019, he was charged following a hit-and-run investigation after a parked vehicle was struck in the area of Sixth and North Main streets. A child that was in the vehicle that was struck was checked by EMS personnel.
In December of last year, Camacho-Monge was charged after police investigated reports of vehicles driving in the city of Jamestown bearing fictitious temporary Texas license plates.
DUNKIRK MAN CHARGED IN VIOLENT ASSAULT
A Dunkirk man involved in a July 18 shooting in the city has been charged with the violent assault on two children who sought medical assistance at a Route 60 Kwik Fill.
Chautauqua County District Attorney Jason Schmidt said Thursday Javier Cruz-Corraliza, 34, has been formally charged with the assault on the youths, ages 8 and 12, who were injured in the incident. Both suffered gunshot wounds, which occurred around 8:30 p.m. that evening along Route 60.
Witnesses, according to the Dunkirk Police Department, said a southbound vehicle on Route 60 was passed by another vehicle, at which point shots were fired. Afterward, occupants inside the vehicle struck by the gunfire sought safety and medical assistance at the Route 60 Red Apple Kwik Fill in Fredonia.
Both juveniles were transported to Brooks-TLC Hospital System in Dunkirk.
Cruz-Corraliza was arraigned Thursday on a four-count indictment in Chautauqua County Court by Judge David Foley who set bail at $25,000 cash or $50,000 property bond. He faces charges of first-degree assault, a felony, two counts of first-degree attempted assault and second-degree assault.
Cruz-Corraliza is represented by Nelson Torre, a Buffalo attorney, and is due back in court on Nov. 28 for a discovery conference. Schmidt offered his thanks to the Dunkirk Police Department for their thorough work on this case.
