City Police Calls, Arrests Increasing In 2022

Rise In Crime

Jamestown police officers have been busier this year — at least, they have been when compared to the last five years.

According to the Jamestown Police Department’s weekly crime statistics released earlier this week show the department’s offenses reported increasing through July 30 to 3,331 in 2022. That’s 4.8% higher than the number of calls the department responded to through the same time in 2021 and 4.8% higher when compared to the Jamestown Police Department’s five-year average.

The biggest increases have come in person and property crime, which have increased by 7.7% and 6.1%, respectively. There have been slight decreases in crime termed as against society and other.

Arrests have also increased 19.8% over the past year from 2,107 to 2,524. Arrests in 2022 are trending higher than the city’s five-year average of 2,168.

For the week of July 24-30, the top areas of service for Jamestown police officers were checks for well being (48) followed by domestic disputes (46), suspicious situations (26), larcenies (23), noise complaints (20), harassment (19), vehicle complaints (17), disorderly person (17), animal complaints (16) and fights (15). The department reported 14 motor vehicle accidents, 59 vehicle and traffic stops, 35 tickets issued, 15 drug-related arrests and one overdose incident.
