Ellington Rod And Gun Club Temporarily Closes After Fire
ELLINGTON — The Ellington Rod and Gun Club announced it will be closed until further notice after fire broke out at the property Saturday morning.
Crews were called to the club, located at 1045 Hagerdon Hill Road, around 7:10 a.m. after a hunter in the area discovered the fire and called 911. The blaze was under control in about 10 to 15 minutes.
According to Capt. Rich Telford of the Chautauqua County Fire Investigation Team, the fire is believed to have started just above the broilers in the kitchen before spreading into the attic. Telford said the broilers may have been left on from the night before.
“There was heavy damage to the kitchen and attic of the building,” he said.
Volunteers from Ellington, Sinclairville, Falconer, Cherry Creek, Gerry, Fluvanna and Conewango were called to the scene.
“We want to thank our amazing Ellington Firefighters and mutual aid that responded so quickly this morning, as well as volunteers who are already helping with cleanup,” the club said in a message posted to Facebook. “We will post more info as we have it.”
