3 Residents At Nursing Facility Test Positive For COVID
A Tanglewood Group senior official has confirmed that “a small number of residents” at Memory Garden in West Ellicott have tested positive for COVID-19.
Troy Taylor, chief operations officer for the Tanglewood Group, told The Post-Journal that three residents at the facility had tested positive, though none were showing any symptoms of the novel coronavirus. The residents were tested after a per diem employee tested positive.
Taylor noted that two residents have been hospitalized after being sent to the hospital for unrelated illnesses and are in stable condition.
In accordance with state and local guidelines, all visitations have been canceled for 28 days, he noted.
“Recent COVID-19 testing of staff at the Tanglewood Group’s Memory Garden facility had resulted in a single employee being reported as positive for the virus,” said Taylor, noting that the facility immediately began to implement all protocols and procedures under state and local health department guidelines.
“These procedures included notification to families, use of personal protective equipment, isolation measures, suspension of visitation and the testing of both staff and residents,” he said. “Through heightened precautionary and safety measures, the Tanglewood Group has been able to contain all resident infection solely to a small area within the Memory Garden facility.”
Taylor said that the group “will continue to work diligently to prevent any further exposure within our facilities with the full expectation that we are able eliminate or greatly minimize any further contamination.”
He added, “We understand the concerns and frustration families have regarding the restrictions on visitations, but must follow the mandates of the NYS Department of Health in the protection of our resident’s health and well-being.”
