Hazeltine Library Sets Author Series

Trenton Lutes, a Westfield man who writes and creates art, is pictured at a 2022 recent book signing. He will open the 2025 Hazeltine Public Library author series on Monday.

BUSTI – It’s an opportunity to hear authors talk about their craft.

Ten authors will participate in the April is for Authors series at The Hazeltine Public Library.

Beginning April 7 and continuing each Monday until June 16, local authors will be at HPL to talk about their book, their writing process, and the highs and lows of being an author.

“We started these programs several years ago to give local writers exposure,” said library director Katie Smith. “They were very well received and we quickly expanded to a spring and fall offering. Often the authors are household names but it isn’t unusual to find your friend, neighbor, teacher is a talented individual with published works to their name.”

Smith added that each session begins at 6:30 p.m. and is free admission with no residence or library card requirements.

Jason Bussman reads from his recently-published memoir “Fumble: Just a Dad Trying Not To Drop the Ball.” He will be the featured author at the Hazeltine Public Library author series on April 14. Submitted photo

“The authors will have copies of their work for sale and are happy to personalize and sign a copy”, said Smith. “We appreciate reservations but they are not required.”

The presentations, Smith noted, take place in the Community Building adjacent to the library; there is the ability to move into the library if the weather doesn’t cooperate.

Here is a list of authors scheduled to present:

“I like bringing the authors to the library, learning about their work and inviting the community to experience a new writer, a new genre but often familiar to them. Several times the authors have served as inspiration to audience members and encouraged them to keep writing, even if the goal isn’t being published,” Smith added.

Smith serves as a host allowing the author to speak for about 20 to 30 minutes.

“Often, they read passages from their work, then take questions from the audience,” Smith said.

The library is located at 891 Busti-Sugar Grove Road, and there is off-street parking available. Authors interested in being added to the list and considered for the fall series are invited to contact 716-487-1281 or email director@hazeltinelibrary.org.

Starting at $2.99/week.
