CLYMER — Cemetery rates will soon be seeing an increase in the town of Clymer.

During a recent Clymer Town Board meeting, the town discussed raising these rates, specifically to be closer to what other municipalities and the regional average prices are. Board member Levi Swanson was in charge of looking over the current rates and proposing changes.

“We are the lowest in the region for sure,” Swanson said. “So, I just sort of plugged it all in and made averages and some recommendations.”

The proposed prices for Clymer are as follows; $495 for internment, up from $250, $255 for cremation, and $410 for the lot price, up from $150. The regional average for internment prices is $617, cremation $338 and lot price $583, according to a Facebook post from the Clymer Town Clerk.

The increase in rates are also set to include things the town has not offered before, such as the ability for Saturday morning burial, disinterment, and infant burial, along with a lot price for non-residents.

Town Supervisor Brian Willink asked if anyone knew how many lots were left, to which no one knew the exact number.

“I was thinking about that today, and I can’t imagine there’s a whole lot left,” Willink said. “It’s pretty well filled out there.”

Also included in the new cemetery rates will be a long-term resident discount, 15% for residents of Clymer that have lived there for over 25 years with verification from the town clerk, and a 10% for pre-purchase and a household limit of four lots at a discounted price per household. 20% of all cemetery revenue will be allocated to a maintenance fund.

Swanson said these new rates and additions will bring the town closer to the regional average.

“We’ve now gone from being way too low to being at least at average,” Swanson said. “These rates haven’t been updated in probably 25+ years.”

The new rates were approved by the town board and are set to go into effect on June 1.

Starting at $2.99/week.
