The president and vice president of the Basketball Super League and The Basketball League attended the Jamestown Jackal’s inaugural playoff game in the league.

David Magley, league president, and Evelyn Magley, league CEO, were on hand to visit and watch the Jamestown Jackals play against the Canadian-based London Lightning at Jamestown Community College’.

“We’re here to watch this amazing game between the Jackals and the Lightning,” said Evelyn Magley. “I love Kayla Crosby’s (the Jackals team owner and founder) vision for this team. I can see how well the players have integrated into this community and their connection with the fans, especially the school-aged fanbase.”

The Jamestown Jackals organization moved from the TBL to play in the 2024-2025 season of the BSL. The BSL is a professional basketball league based in Canada and the United States, formed in 2023. It was started by the ownership of The Basketball League (TBL) after the National Basketball League of Canada (NBLC) dissolved and left several Canadian teams without a home. BSL teams often engage in interleague play with TBL franchises, and their regular season runs from November through March.

Additionally, at the beginning of the game, as part of the traditional pre-game ritual, the national anthem was performed by a special needs area resident on his electric guitar. Sean Herbin, a graduate of Southwestern High School and a resident of Jamestown, played for the crowd.

“I’ve been playing for many years,” said Herbin. “I got my first guitar in middle school, I think. So it’s been a long, long time.”

Herbin has performed the anthem throughout the area.

“I’ve played the anthem for the Jackals twice now, for the Jamestown Tarp Skunks, and for anyone else who needs me to play the national anthem. I’m there if needed.”

Starting at $2.99/week.
