JHS Senior To Perform In Regional Chorus

Eddie Meyer

A Jamestown High School senior has been recognized as one of the most talented high school vocalists in the eastern United States and will have a chance to perform with his peers.

Eddie Meyer has been selected to perform with the National Association for Music Education All-Eastern Honors Mixed Chorus. Selections occur every two years, with 200 high school students from across NAfME’s Eastern District honored. The All-Eastern district encompasses 11 states and the District of Columbia. Meyer will travel to Hartford, Conn., to rehearse and perform with the ensemble from April 24 to 27.

“Words cannot properly express how proud Jamestown High School is of Eddie on this achievement,” said JHS choral director Lauren Scharf. “Being selected for All-Eastern is one of the highest honors a high school musician can receive, and Eddie absolutely deserves it. He is a tremendous student and musician who consistently leads by example, and we are so proud to see his hard work recognized on such a prestigious stage.”

The son of Hillary and Barry Meyer, Meyer is the first JHS student to attend the festival since Dylan Lydell in 2019. Meyer was selected to attend the New York State School Music Association Winter Conference All-State Festival in December, as well as NYSSMA Zone 1 Area All-State in November. All three selections were based on his score at last spring’s NYSSMA solo festival.

The NAfME All-Eastern Honors Ensembles, consisting of a concert band, symphony orchestra, mixed chorus, treble chorus, and jazz ensemble, are organized by members of The National Association for Music Education. Each of the state music educators associations in the Eastern Division, which encompasses 11 states and the District of Columbia, including Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, and D.C., oversee the selection process in their state during the fall of the year before the event and compile ranked lists of recommended juniors and seniors for consideration. The method used to compile the lists varies from state to state, although all recommended students must have been selected to participate in their home all-state festivals.
