Fight Leads To Weapons Charges For City Men

Two Jamestown men face weapons charges after a fight Friday afternoon brought city police to Prendergast Avenue.

Police responded to a report of a person with a weapon at 3:07 p.m. Friday. Officers were told prior to arriving at the scene that one of the men allegedly brandished a firearm during a dispute between several individuals. Upon arrival officers were advised that Illinois D. Jackson, 21, of Jamestown approached a person walking on the sidewalk and refused to let them by. During the person’s second attempt to walk past, Joseph Connolly, 20, of Jamestown allegedly brandished what appeared to be a pistol or other firearm in his pants waistband and threatened the other person’s dog. As the other person called the police, Jackson allegedly brandished a pipe and also threatened the person.

Both Jackson and Connolly were charged with second-degree menacing and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, with both allegedly having prior convictions for both charges. They were held until they could be arraigned.

Jackson was charged April 7 with two counts of second-degree harassment, endangering the welfare of a child and resisting arrest after a fight on the city’s north side. In that incident, officers were flagged down while on patrol. Jackson allegedly became disorderly and shoved another person while they were holding a baby and then allegedly threatened another person during the incident. Officers responded to a second location nearby and reportedly found Jackson, who then allegedly fought with officers. After a brief struggle he was arrested and taken to the city jail.

Earlier this year, Jackson was charged with second-degree criminal contempt after a series of nuisance complaints on the city’s north side after Jackson allegedly violated an order of protection to stay away from a woman at the address.

Connolly was also cited during the same series of January 29 incidents with unnecessary noise for violating the city’s noise ordinance during one police response and then, when officers responded to the same address for a fourth time in the early morning hours of Jan. 29, Connolly was charged with third-degree assault after officers responded to a report of a woman screaming for help. Connolly allegedly pushed a woman, causing minor injuries to her face.
