The Easter Bunny – courtesy of his friends at UpTwn Kix – made an unscheduled appearance downtown over the weekend.
The egg hunt area was set up from Prendergast Avenue and Second Street and Prendergast Avenue and Sixth Street, as well as from the National Comedy Center, the Northwest Ice Arena, and the surrounding area.
“We got up and started hiding the eggs around 4 a.m.,” said Christopher Saldarriaga, the owner and proprietor of UpTwn Kix.
“We had about 25-30 kids come to the event, and their parents and guardians did too, so more than 40 to 50 people attended.”
Saldarriaga said each egg contained something, from candy and treats to one of the three top grand prizes. In addition to the hunt, a life-sized costumed egg was available for pictures and to cheer on the kids during their hunt.

“We had kids and some adults who were not part of the egg hunt but just wanted to take a picture with the life-size egg,” said Saldarriaga. “It’s about giving back to the community and brightening the day, one kid at a time.”
As reported in an April 8 Post-Journal story, UpTwn Kix collaborated with the Randolph Academy to host a show-designing contest.
Jomar Gomez, a floater at the Academy who has a connection with the Jamestown-based shoe and apparel store Uptwn Kix, 117, has made it his life-long goal to give back to the community by making a little difference.
“As I always say, my goal is to pour into these kids as much as possible. I’ve been blessed with an overflow of love, patience, and kindness, and I want to share it all,” Gomez said. “I want all my students to succeed every day.”
Saldarriaga said that this is the fourth event his team has hosted and that they are always looking for new ways to collaborate with other stores and non-profits in the area for the good of the community.
