Businesses cited for water violations
MAYVILLE – A number of county businesses have been cited and fined for various water violations.
At the Chautauqua County Board of Health meeting, it was announced that 17 businesses agreed to settle various public water violations. Some businesses had one violation; others had as many as four.
There was one other business that did not agree to settle and went before the hearing officer.
The Hon. Betsy S. Steger ruled that Olde Chautauqua Vineyards of Portland failed to comply with New York State Sanitary Code in that they failed to submit results of microbiological minimum monitoring requirements for their public water supply for the fourth quarter of 2024 to the county Health Department by Jan. 10. The business was fined $400.
Other public water violations that were settle are as follows:
– Sweeteye Estates of Southwestern Drive, Jamestown failed to submit monthly operation records for November and December, failed to submit biological monitoring for the fourth quarter of 2024, and failed to complete necessary nitrate monitoring for 2024.
– Camp Chautauqua at West Lake Road, Stow failed to submit results of the Principal Organic Contaminants monitoring for their public water supply for the third quarter of 2024, failed to submit results of minimum Synthetic Organic Chemical monitoring requirements for 2024, and failed to submit results of Inorganic Chemical Contaminants monitoring requirements for 2024.
– Birria Bungalow of Fluvanna Avenue, Jamestown failed to complete necessary Nitrate monitoring for 2024 and failed to submit monthly operation records for their public water supply for September 2024.
– Garfield MHP of Garfield Road, Jamestown failed to submit biological monitoring for December 2024 and failed to complete necessary nitrate monitoring for 2024.
– Green Frog of Route 20, Silver Creek; Kennedy Supermarket of Main Street, Kennedy; Maplehurst Country Club of Falconer-Kimball Stand Road, Falconer; and Sisters Restaurant of Falconer-Kimball Stand Road, Falconer all failed to submit results of necessary biological monitoring for the fourth quarter of 2024.
– Paradise Bay Park of Shadyside Road, Findley Lake and Panama Rocks, Rock Hill Road, Panama both failed to submit monthly operation records for October.
– South Hills Country Club of Busti-Stillwater Road, Jamestown failed to submit monthly operation records for November.
– Bemus Point Golf and Tap House of Main Street, Bemus Point; Crosby’s – Hartfield on East Lake Road, Mayville; and Ellington Rod and Gun Club of Hagerdon Hill Road, Ellington all failed to submit monthly operation records for December.
– Chautauqua KOA Campground of Thum Road, Dewittville and Splash! of Lakeside Drive, Bemus Point failed to complete necessary nitrate monitoring for 2024.
– Busti Mobile Home Park of Busti-Sugar Grove Road, Jamestown failed to perform PFOA, PFOS and Dioxane monitoring for the fourth quarter of 2024.
Jessica Wurestle with the county Health Department said the majority of businesses were fined $100 per violation.
