FREWSBURG – The Frewsburg Lions Club will host a drive-through chicken barbecue fundraiser on April 12 to benefit Jace Hasse, a 10-year-old Frewsburg student and his family.

Jace was diagnosed in Nov. 2024 with T-cell lymphoblastic lymphoma and must frequently travel with a parent to Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh for chemotherapy and blood transfusions. Each trip requires a stay of at least a few days.

For a donation of $18 each, dinners prepared by 3Cs Catering include a half-chicken, baked beans, macaroni salad and cookie or brownie and may be picked up from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the Zion Lutheran Church parking lot, 45 Falconer St, Frewsburg. Presale tickets are preferred by calling 716-397-9485 by April 5. A small number of tickets will be available the day of the benefit.

Jace’s mother, Chantel Swanson, told The Post-Journal in November the cancer was found following a trip to the emergency room for back pain.

“It all started with an ER visit for some back pain that he had last weekend,” Swanson said. “After an X-ray and CT scan, it was discovered that he had a 10 centimeter by 10 centimeter mass in his chest. The ER doctor came in and explained about the mass and said he was looking to transfer us to Pittsburgh Children’s Hospital that night, and stated that Jace needed more testing that they were not capable of there. I was in shock.”
