SINCLAIRVILLE – The Cassadaga Valley Drama Club will present the musical Hadestown Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. with a matinee showing at 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
Tickets are available at https://cvcougars.seatyourself.biz.
Hadestown retells the Greek myths of Orpheus and Eurydice and Hades and Persephone.
“Our Drama Club had the opportunity to see Hadestown when it came to Shea’s in Buffalo in 2023,” said Nicole Zens, stage director. “As soon as I learned that it was being released as a teen edition and available to do at our school, I jumped on the opportunity. I could envision that it would be a perfect musical for us, and would be very memorable for everyone involved. It has turned out to be even better than I expected.”
With the musical being so modern and this year being the first of the teen edition, the cast, pit, and crew have come across many challenges.

“It’s a very unique show in the sense that it has a modern vibe, which is mostly singing, not a lot of talking or dialogue,” said John Cole, vocal coach.
Stage crew has also had a busy year with the set this year. The crew was able to reuse many pieces of last year’s set which reduced the cost this year.
“Several members that graduated last year have been replaced by underclassmen that have taken the role of building the set, and they’ve gotten more independent of being able to complete tasks without as much help from me,” said Reggie Cole, stage producer.
This will be five seniors’ last show including Isabella Dutton, Ariana Main, Zoe Zuech, Andrew Faulkner, and Justin Gonzalez.
“I couldn’t think of a better senior show,” Dutton said. “It’s a perfect lead for my senior year, it’s not the typical princess fairytale. I think it will speak to people. It’s a love story but it’s also a tragedy. I love it so much and I get to share it with Ari which I love. We started together [doing musicals] in third grade which is really special.”
The roles in Hadetown will be played by the following students: Hermes: Matthew Lawrie; Orpheus: Cameron Katilus; Eurydice: Isabella Dutton & Ariana Main; Hades: Connor Main; Persephone: Mya Cusimano; The Three Fates: Emma Daigle, Elora Kelley, Lilleean Meacham, and Cathryn Russell; featured ensemble: Anthony Clark, Addison Helwig, Eliana Katilus, Brandi Meder, Katarina Pattison, and Zoe Zuech; worker chorus: Gemma Andersen, Alicyn Debo, Marli Deyell, Brionna Doland, LeighAnn Fox, Cody George, Hannah George, Hunter Hattaway, Gabby Hubler, Quinn Johnson, Sawyer Johnson, Gia Knott, Eden Miller, Miranda Myers, Liliana Payne, Lydia Petry, Lillian Phillips, Kailani Pierce, Maya Richner, Kora Richerson, and Roclynn Ulinger.
The pit orchestra features four students: Anna Burlingame on piano, Andrew Faulkner on guitar, Ben Petry on tuba, and Nora Nopper on bari sax and glockenspiel; they will be performing with local musicians Marian Byard on cello, Mark Klose on trombone and flugelhorn, and Buffalo area musician Lucyanne Gordon on violin. The pit is rounded out with musical directors John Cole on the drums, and Nicole Zenns conducting the group.
The stage crew is made up ofAubre Bonasera, Emmalynn DeGolier, Sue Dewyea, Donny Easton, Austin Gloss, Justin Gonzalez, Olivia Lopez, Bridget McQuiggan, Austin Myers, and Tristan Reese.
