Randolph Comprehensive Plan Meeting Is Wednesday

RANDOLPH – The second of three comprehensive plan meetings in Randolph will be held Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Randolph Free Library.

“The Randloph’s Community Comprehensive Plan hasn’t been updated since 2017,” said Dave Messinger, Randolph Planning Committee member. “These meetings provide an opportunity for community members to share their insights and suggestions, ensuring that the plan reflects the current needs and aspirations of our growing community. In our first meeting we focused on reviewing the vision, goals and overarching strategies of our current comprehensive plan. The attendees of this first meeting also discussed examples of “stakeholders” whose voice and needs should be considered for inclusion in the comprehensive planning process.”

Messinger said stakeholders include residents, seniors, families, youth, working, people living on fixed-incomes, and those living within Randolph and East Randolph or those living in the more rural countryside. Additionally, he said other categorical areas to consider include business owners, including retail businesses, commercial and manufacturing businesses, agricultural and the Amish community; educational institutions including youth and students, Randolph Central School, New Directions, Randolph Academy and the Randolph Library; and community organizations.

Wednesday’s meeting agenda calls for review and approval of the minutes from the Jan. 29 meeting; conducting a summary input and discussion regarding any rewrites of sections of the plan discussed at the January meeting; review and discussion of the addendums to the current plan (handouts will be available at the meeting); creating a “Living Randolph” from a Cattaraugus County county study completed in 2016 and from a tourism study findings and suggestion completed in 2007, said Messinger.

“Creating a ‘Livable Randolph’ is what we are focusing on,” said Messinger. “We’re (Randolph) is at the beginning of the ‘Amish Trail’ for tourism, and we need to expand upon that.”

A third meeting is set for March 26 at 7 p.m. at the library.

“At the third meeting we plan on discussing future land usage,” added Messinger. “Residents who wish to present their views during the hearing are encouraged to prepare a brief statement. Additionally, written comments can be submitted in advance or during the meeting.”
