Future Veterinarians Gain Skills At Local Ranch
Three local young men recently gained hands-on experience applying equine science techniques with Dawn Samuelson, founder of the National Equine Institute of Growth through Healing Inc. (NEIGH) at the new Range Ranch in Fredonia.
All three are starting their journey to become veterinarians. Gavin Ternullo, a senior at Southwestern High School, is applying to veterinary school in Ireland. Kendell Valvo, currently a student in animal science at Cornell University, and Ryan Deas, co-owner of Range Ranch LLC and Ranchin’ for Veterans Inc. Deas just completed his service as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps and has been selected for a six month internship at the famous 6666 ranch in Texas. Deas will be heading to veterinary school at Utah State in the fall of 2025.
Samuelson brings more than 30 years of experience in animal science and equine behavior after receiving her associate degree in animal husbandry from Alfred State University and bachelor degree in equine behavior and animal science from Colorado State University. NEIGH provides equine assisted therapy to veterans, first responders and youth who suffer from trauma.
